Deep Roots, Bright Fruits – A Santa Rita Orchard Mural

Honestly, folks, it just keeps getting better and better. Every project is my favorite, and my latest mural is proof of that pudding. It was so much FUN to paint a mural at my children’s school, a 60′ wall outside the multipurpose room. I am usually spotted on campus in my paint splattered clothes, looking a bit out of place from “normal” society. For a few weeks I got to show off what I do in front of the people I care about most: my kids. Not that they would let on they were proud of their messy old mom; it was “no big deal” at home.

Santa Rita has been around for over 50 years, and many people choose our corner of Los Altos to call home because it is “old school”: friendly and safe, with a small neighborhood school, and lacking in those new-fangled technologies like sidewalks and streetlamps. The undeveloped lots with decrepit fruit trees are fast disappearing, but I wanted to capture an image of what the area would have been like when it was mostly covered in orchards, and overlay that with what defines the school today, which is it’s multicultural identity and emphasis on innovation in education.

Drumroll please…..
