Food Flight Mural with Fruit at Santa Rita Elementary School
It was such a pleasure to paint again at my kids’ school, Santa Rita Elementary School. I painted the outside of the multipurpose room with a landscape inspired by an old fruit box, since the area used to be apricot orchards. For the inside, I wanted to keep with the fruit theme, but this time have it be more of a silly, oddball mural. Amazingly, the flying fruit concept “took off” and now the 50 foot long wall on the inside of the multipurpose room is covered in blue sky with clouds, and flying fruit machines. The inspiration comes from steampunk and retro-futurism as well as living classroom/commissary/food fight twist and a personal agenda of “eat your fruits and veggies” marketing campaign.
